Accrue’s 2026 in Review: Three Years In, Just Getting Started

As 2025 draws to a close, we’re reflecting on the year, and building a company is rarely about one big moment; it’s about a series of deliberate steps taken consistently, even when the road is uncertain. This year at Accrue was exactly that: a year of steady growth, bold bets, meaningful connections, and deepened commitment to our mission.

This year, Accrue turned three.

Three years of building infrastructure that helps Africans move money seamlessly across borders. Three years of listening closely to users, fixing what doesn’t work, and improving what does. 

A Defining Milestone: Our $1.58 Million Seed Round

One of the biggest moments this year was our $1.58 million seed round. It was validation of the problem we’re solving, the market we believe in, and the team executing the vision daily.

The seed round marked a transition for Accrue. It allowed us to think bigger, move faster, and invest more deeply in product development, expansion, and people. It also came with a renewed sense of responsibility to our users, our investors, and the broader African fintech ecosystem.

Community Growth 

At the start of the year, our Instagram community stood at 10,000 followers. We are closing the year with 17,000, but beyond the numbers was something far more valuable: engagement, conversation, and trust.

Our social platforms became spaces for education, storytelling, product updates, and honest conversations about money, opportunity, and building wealth across borders. Every comment, DM, and share reminded us that Accrue is being built with people.

Showing Up for the Ecosystem

This year, Accrue showed up consistently where Africa’s tech and fintech conversations were happening. We attended and engaged at:

  • Lagos Tech Fest
  • Africa Fintech Forum
  • Moonshot by TechCabal
  • Lagos Tech Expo

These events gave us more than visibility. They gave us perspective. We learned from our users, exchanged ideas with industry leaders, and deepened our understanding of the challenges and opportunities shaping Africa’s financial future.

Building Community Offline

One of the most rewarding parts of the year was meeting our users IRL. We hosted the Accrue Hangout in Ghana in March, followed by three smaller editions of Accrue Hangout in Lagos. These gatherings gave us an intimate opportunity to connect with our users and community members.

Meeting users face-to-face reaffirmed why we do this work. Their stories, feedback, and aspirations continue to shape how we build.

Expanding Our Reach, Improving the Product & Impact

Throughout the year, we ran campaigns that aligned with our values and the season:

  • Our Children’s Campaign, which focused on impact and responsibility, was a nostalgic moment for our children who shared stories of childhood and lived experiences. 
  • Black Friday was designed to reward our community, who have, for the longest time, missed out on Black Friday deals. The campaign allowed our users to cash in on Black Friday deals and save money. 
  • The Christmas Challenge, centered on celebration and the season, was a gamified experience for users, allowing them to decorate their Christmas tree with ornaments earned by completing tasks and earning some dollars. 

In the spirit of the season, we launched a report we have been working on. The Detty December report gave us insight into how Africans in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya celebrate Detty December in their respective countries. Check it out here. 

We expanded Accrue to Cameroon after we discovered that 3K people have signed up to Accrue, a service demand that prompted our expansion, bringing our services to more users and taking another step toward our pan-African vision.

We also shipped key upgrades:

Every feature shipped was guided by user feedback and a clear goal: to make cross-border finance simpler, faster, and more reliable.

Growing the Team Behind the Vision

None of this would have been possible without people. This year, our crew grew, bringing in talent across functions and strengthening the culture that powers Accrue. Each new talent added fresh perspective, energy, and expertise, helping us move with clarity and confidence.

Looking Ahead

As we close the year, we do so with gratitude. Gratitude for our users who trust us with their money. Gratitude for our partners and investors who believe in our vision. Gratitude for a team that continues to build with purpose, even when the work is hard.

This year laid strong foundations.
